Schedule for Yeap Ban Har | June 2015

2 June Keming Primary School is having their now annual professional development with me. 3 June I will present a seminar at Singapore Early Childhood Education Symposium. It's titled Enhancing Pedagogy and Numeracy throughly PLC Lesson Study. Slides are available 4 June I will deliver a keynote lecture at Association for Mathematics Educators -Singapore Mathematical Society Conference 2015. See AME Website  for registration details. 8.9.10.11.12.13 June Blake School near Minneapolis in MN is hosting grade-level professional development for teachers in the area. The courses are open to the public. We start we a Grade 1 Institute on Monday and work our way to Grade 6 Institute on Saturday. This could well be the only grade-specific Singapore Mathematics institute in the US. 4.5.6.7 May I will teach Master Teacher Development Programme in Brunei. This is organized by Ministry of Education Brunei and run by MCI. This course is for master teachers in the country. My colleague a retired master teacher will share the course with me. 11 May  This is a one day seminar specially targeted at public school teachers but private school teachers are welcome too. This project was initiated by myself but the main organizing work is being done by Keys School Manila with Ateneo providing the venue and various organizations have stepped in to provide sponsorship. 12.13.14.15 May East Asian Regional Conference on Mathematics Education EARCOME7 is hosted by Cebu City. On Apr 1-2, I will be visiting Ridgefield School District in CT. On Mar 31, I will present to the parents at Veterans Park Elementary School  Auditorium 7-8:30 pm. I will meet Grade 3 (9-12 morning) and Grade 4 (1-4 afternoon) teachers on Apr 1. On Apr 2, I will be the keynote speaker at their Annual District Professional Development Day - Are We Future Ready? and runs workshop that afternoon (1-3 pm) for all elementary teachers. On 6, 7 and 8 I facilitate lesson study with three learning teams at Choa Chu Kang Primary School in Singapore. I teach a course on early numeracy for kindergarten teachers in Singapore. This course is organized by Early Childhood Development Agency in Singapore and conducted by Marshall Cavendish Institute. This is on 10 April at SMU. I am teaching a course in London on Apr 13. Mar 2-3: Weston Public Schools, CT Elementary School Kindergarten | Lesson on Numbers 80 to 100 Grade 2 | Lesson on Measurement Grade 3 | Put On Your Thinking Cap Lesson on Fractions Grade 4 | Lesson on Writing Decimals as Fractions Grade 5 | Bar Model Lesson on Fractions Middle School | Grade 8 Open Lesson based on Math in Focus Course 3 Section 6.3 | Linear and Non-Linear Models The lesson is used to embody the Singapore philosophy. The open lessons also shows one way of using the textbook  - how to make the anchor task more engaging, real-world, and student-centered. Differentiation for struggling learners will also be modeled. In the discussion, we will talk about the different ways to use anchor tasks given in textbooks, use, adapt, abandon. This school district emphasizes applied learning so anchor tasks grounded in real-w
